Day 17 -It's All Good, Really - Daily Inspirational Verses from Real Life

NIV (1984) - Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

When you first read this, it sounds awesome.  It is awesome, but maybe not in the way it seems when you first read it.

If you go back and read the context from which 29:11 is taken, you will see that God is talking about the country Israel, after having been taken into slavery in Babylon.  He is telling them to be patient and persevere.  He is telling them to hang on and that he knows their names.  He is telling them he has awesome plans for them, and they are all good.

What a bummer.  He's not talking to you about your life.

Or is he?

First, if you are a Christian, you are one of his children; an adopted child for sure, but you are one of his children. (It is good to be adopted, by the way, because biblically you have to be treated better than natural children in biblical tradition.)

More, he is telling you by extension you, that he knows YOUR name too.  He is telling all of us that we need to hold on, for he has plans for each of his children, and they are all good.

So really, if you want to own this blessing, all you have to ask yourself is, are you his child?  If you are, hold on, he is coming.

If you are not, click the link below to find out how to become one of his children.
